TRANSATLANTIC DATA TANSFERS: AGREEMENTS REACHED ON AN EU – US PRIVACY SHIELD

On 29th January 2016, an important step forward in the EU-US negotiations on a renewed Safe Harbour Agreement was made, thanks to the approval by the US Senate of the Judicial Redress Act. The Judicial Redress Act is a piece of legislation that will allow citizens from the European Union to enforce, in US Courts, their data protection rights as well as other rights already enjoyed by  american citizens under the 1974 Privacy Act. UNE REPRISE ECONOMIQUE LENTE ET FRAGILE: CE QUI DISENT LES RAPPORTS PAR PAYS DE LA COMMISSION EUROPEENNE

La Commission européenne a publié le 26 février des rapports par pays, consistant en une analyse approfondie des défis sociaux et économiques auxquels sont confrontés les Etats membres.

Eléments clés du semestre européen pour la coordination des politiques économiques, ces rapports ont pour objectif de fournir un état d’avancement des réformes entreprises par les Etats membres, notamment suite aux recommandations de l’anné prééente, et d’identifier le plus en amont possible les défis auxquels les pays concernés devront faire face. Ils servent de base de discussion avec les Etats membres concernant les priorités de leurs programmes nationaux et mènent aux recommandations annuelles de la Commission pour chaque pays. Read More→

EU COMMISSION’S ENERGY SECURITY PACKAGE

On 16th February 2016 the European Commission presented its Energy Security Package, outlining four new proposals for Gas Supply, Intergovernmental Agreements (IGA), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Heating and Cooling, all key elements of President Junker’s Energy Union Strategy.

Addressing the details of the Energy Security Package, the Vice-President responsible for the Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič, said: “The Energy Union Strategy, launched one year ago, promised to provide all Europeans with energy which is secure, sustainable, and competitive. Today’s package focuses on the security of our supply, but touches upon all three overarching goals. By reducing our energy demand, and better managing our supply from external sources we are delivering on our promise and enhancing the stability of Europe’s energy market.” Read More→

BREXIT REFERENDUM SET FOR 23rd JUNE

“This morning I have just chaired a meeting of the Cabinet in which I updated them on the special status we have secured for Britain. And the Cabinet agreed that the Government’s position will be to recommend that Britain remains in a reformed European Union. […] I will go to Parliament and propose that the British people decide our future in Europe through an in-out referendum on Thursday, the 23rd of June.
